Can electronic gadgets get damaged by exposure to extreme cold and heat?

If I kept my Ipod, digital camera or Magellan navigator in my car when it was freeezing or boiling hot outside..would it damage the electronics?

heat wont do too much damage as long as the item is not on,, or its not so hot it’s damaging the plastic case,, cold can damage it though,, if the item gets cold enough for the water in the air to condensate,, then the item may get damaged,,
